The school’s founder, Wilhelm von Humboldt, implemented a novel educational model at the university, which emphasized holistic, curiosity-driven learning, rather than exclusively vocational, market-driven learning.

Shades of blue will decorate the football field next year as marching band performs a composition of “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin and “Shades of Blue” by Memphis Sound.

“The content is from the Queen Symphony and it’s performed by the London Philharmonic. It’s an absolutely amazing, gorgeous version of Queen and their music,” marching band director Chad Koehler said.

Because of an increased budget, the band will also be able to buy new instruments, add more staff and attend more competitions.

This theme was announced on May 3 at the marching band call out meeting. The meeting also included information about marching band’s season.

“We may not have all the tools yet, but I can personally guarantee [students], with the staff that we have, you will be more knowledgeable about your craft and become a better appreciator and performer of art and music and dance,” Kholer said.

Practice will start in June and competitions begin in October.
