The school’s founder, Wilhelm von Humboldt, implemented a novel educational model at the university, which emphasized holistic, curiosity-driven learning, rather than exclusively vocational, market-driven learning.

Juniors and seniors from HSE and FHS have the opportunity to participate in the decisions created to change the city of Fishers this upcoming academic year.

The Mayor’s Youth Council, which started in 2016, has opened applications for new members at the city hall. The program offers hands on activities in the public sector, word on future policies and programs that offer real-life problems to solve. In addition, the members of the student council have two projects at hand that will allow them to develop team-building and hard thinking, all while working alongside the Mayor Scott Fadness and multiple members of the city hall.

“Some of the participants of the Council might be doing some research and rescue training with the Fire Department but also doing some research outside of class about a new policy or idea,”program coordinator Dom Domsic said. “And then in the following months we might be touring the Hamilton County jail and talking about criminal justice with people who are in the field.”

The application requests the student’s grade, classes they have taken,  a letter of reference from a teacher or staff member and a 500 word essay on why they are interested in joining the student council.

“[It is] a great opportunity to see what it is like to have a career where you can effect change and how you can do that right here in Fishers.Domsic said.

The deadline to apply is September 11. For any questions, contact Dan Domsic.

I'm highly excited about what this year will bring and look forward strengthening my weaknesses.
