The school’s founder, Wilhelm von Humboldt, implemented a novel educational model at the university, which emphasized holistic, curiosity-driven learning, rather than exclusively vocational, market-driven learning.

Seniors Allison Marshall, Kylie Adams and Lainey Francis are organizing different students-acted plays this semester.

“My play is “Louder, I Can’t Hear You by William Gleason”,” senior Kylie Adams said. “It’s about a family that can’t really communicate, and it’s kind of a satire on today’s society and how people don’t really pay attention to others.”

The One Acts are an assignment in IB Theater, a class after taking four levels of theater classes. The three students are chosen as directors for their own plays. The plays are practiced in the Black Box and are sponsored by performing arts theater teachers.

“It’s a very rewarding experience to have a play in One Acts,” Adams said. “It’s a very difficult experience, but it would mean the world to me.”

Applying actors began by filling out an audition sheet. Based on their number, students performed a sample passage from one of the three plays.

Performances begin on Feb. 22 at 4:00 and end on Feb. 23 at 7:00. Those who will be chosen for the roles have five weeks to learn their plays and parts.

“I think I wanted to be a part of this because I have acted before, and this was a different opportunity for me to expand my knowledge for theater and take on a bigger leadership-like role that I had never had a chance to take on before,” Adams said.
