The school’s founder, Wilhelm von Humboldt, implemented a novel educational model at the university, which emphasized holistic, curiosity-driven learning, rather than exclusively vocational, market-driven learning.

On Feb. 8, junior Lauren Nix and sophomore Brynn Roberts sell carnations for Riley alongside distributing Fashion Show applications, showing how closely linked the Fashion Show and Dance Marathon are.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Riley Dance Committee members distributed applications for the Fashion Show. Although the Fashion Show is a separate event, they are using it to promote the Dance Marathon.

“We haven’t been mainly mentioning the dance because we have the fashion show applications out earlier throughout the week as well, and those are kind of a more ‘come to the dance’ because people want to be in the Fashion Show,” junior Lauren Nix, who helped promote the show, said. “But you have to be apart of the dance to go to the fashion show,”

Candidates filled out an application in order to participate and model down the runway. The students are able to model clothing from local boutiques or shops and model in formal dresses. There will be miracle models present which are Riley children that share their stories to students.

“Personally, it’s my favorite event because everyone has a great time modeling,” Nix said. “It’s a great time to have fun and own the moment. The miracle models are the best part of the show because they get to share their story and see why we do everything we do. Overall, it is such a fun night and it’s great to watch it even if you aren’t in the fashion show.”
