The school’s founder, Wilhelm von Humboldt, implemented a novel educational model at the university, which emphasized holistic, curiosity-driven learning, rather than exclusively vocational, market-driven learning.

Dodgeball club meets on Friday nights when there are no home basketball or football games. The club plays on one of the basketball courts and each meeting lasts for ninety minutes. The number of meetings vary each month, but so far forty kids have ben registered to play through the rest of the year.

“Dodgeball club is a fun way to unwind after a week of school,” club supervisor Scott Patterson said. “The club also gives students the chance to meet new people while playing a fun game.”

Anyone is welcomed to join this club at any time. At the start of each meeting, Patterson chooses the captains who select the rosters for their team. Using captains allows the teams to change from game to game.

“We split the teams evenly,” Patterson said. “It depends on how many kids are there and how big the teams are.”

The club will have one more meeting before finals week starts.
