The school’s founder, Wilhelm von Humboldt, implemented a novel educational model at the university, which emphasized holistic, curiosity-driven learning, rather than exclusively vocational, market-driven learning.

Film production club allows students passionate about film to come together to work on the production of student-created films. Together, students focus on writing scripts, filming scenes, and editing clips into movies.

“I wanted to join the club because I’m a really big movie enthusiast and I enjoy all types of movies,” sophomore Caleb Knotts said. “I feel like I’m able to create my own movies with the help of film production club.”

During meetings, members typically bring scripts they have written and do table reads in order improve their writing. As well as editing scripts, film production club teaches students about filming methods such as lighting and camera angles.

“All the scripts we run through during meetings are created by students,” Knotts said. “This year we mainly worked on filming entire scripts.”

Film production club gives students access to technology such as Apple Macs, where they often edit the clips that they shoot. With each other’s help, they turn a script into a movie.

“I consider myself more of an actor since I focus more on the acting aspect of the club,” Knotts said. “Once I gain more knowledge on filming I want to start writing scripts and making my own videos.”

Recently, members of film production club assisted Pigasus Pictures during the filming of the screenplay written by juniors Whitney Roberts and Cinder Foulke. Students had the opportunity to shadow a professional film crew, set up lighting, and help with props.

Film production club meets every Wednesday in H232. Students interested in all the roles in a film are encouraged to join.
