The school’s founder, Wilhelm von Humboldt, implemented a novel educational model at the university, which emphasized holistic, curiosity-driven learning, rather than exclusively vocational, market-driven learning.

    Band concert helps community

All five of the bands – symphonic, wind ensemble, wind symphony, concert and varsity-will be putting on a holiday concert on Dec. 5. This year, said band director Charles Kunz, the bands will be doing something different.“With five different bands, we’re basically just trying to play holiday music and play good music,” Kunz said. “In order to play more literature, we’re actually going to play two concerts.”

The two concerts will occur on the same night at different times. The varsity, symphonic  and wind symphony bands will all be playing at 6:30 p.m. The concert band and wind ensemble will be playing at 8 p.m.

Although the concerts are free, the band department has joined the orchestra department in asking for a canned food item in lieu of an admission cost. The food collected will be split between the Hamilton County Food Bank and the American Legion.
