Lady Tigers open season with win

The Lady Tigers basketball team opened up their regular season last night Tuesday, November 3 against the Lady Bears of Lawrence Central.
It was a back and forth game with the Tigers leading the first half 20-12 over the Bears. In the second half Lawrence Central was able to catch up and made it a three point game, 27-23 with two minutes left. Senior Alex Von Kamecke was able to get a three to end off the third quarter making it 34-28 Tigers.
The final quarter consisted of seniors Jasmine Shelt and Tania Harper of Lawrence Central tieing up the game 40-40 with just two minutes left. Neither teams were able to get a shot off in time sending the game into overtime with the clock set at four minutes.
Senior Hannah Kroehler made all three free throws as the first points of OT making it 43-40 Tigers. In the final minutes of overtime the bears were not able to score making the only option to foul.
In overtime the lady tigers were able to overcome the battle and defeat the B ears 50-40, leading scorer for the Tigers was sophomore shooting guard Ali Gerka with 11 points.
“We played a lot better than we did in the scrimmage a couple days before, it was a good way to start the season and I think were going to go really far,” sophomore Toni Grace said.
