Senior Lily Sharp smiles and laughs while being crowned homecoming queen. Looking out and supporting Sharp from the stands was Junior Larkyn Muth, who looked back on the night and said, “The game was super fun, my choir got to sing the national anthem and one of my best friends won homecoming queen,” Muth said. “It was just an overall fun night!” The Homecoming football game was on Sept. 22.

Members of the student section watch the football game. “As a spirit leader, my role is to keep the energy hype and positive no matter what the score is,” Baranovsky said. “We all want the same thing: to beat HSE. I always want to make sure that we are cheering loud and getting all the classes involved.” Fishers lost the game to HSE with a final score of 35-34 on Sept. 8, 2023.

Free tutoring is available for students of all grades and math courses after school, Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3 to 4 in room H206. Math students can bring their questions to a quiet space to sharpen their abilities. There will always be a math teacher on staff to work with students individually.

Students can also use the opportunity to assist their peers and build community service hours.

“We also have members of the Math Team and some NHS members. They’re upperclassmen,” math teacher Daniel Smith said.

It is not recommended, however, that students wait until an exam comes to seek help. Because tutoring takes place in one room, the sessions may be easily crowded.

“It all depends on whether there’s a test or quiz coming up,” Smith said. “I’ve been in there before where there’s four or five students needing help but I’ve also been in there where there’s twenty to thirty students waiting.”

Additionally, Smith declares that the tutors will not go through all of a student’s homework for that night with them. The sessions aim to reinforce the skills of the lesson but also to leave space for students to apply themselves.

“We have a short amount of time each day, and there’s a possibility of having more students than tutors,” Smith said. “So bring in your textbook and we will do our best to help, but with a limited amount of problems.”

Math tutoring will be ongoing throughout the year. Visit Mr. Duffy or Mr. Smith for more information.
