The band Pulling Teeth, consisting of senior Delilah Freeman, and juniors John Smallwood, Miles Dahl and Hunter Vanvolkenburg, performs every few months, playing alternative music for people of Fishers to enjoy. On April 19 at 8 p.m., they hold their second concert of the year. The location of the concert can be found upon request from their Instagram page, @pulling_teeth.band.
“We rehearse songs a lot before concerts to make sure all of us sound good for our audiences,” Smallwood, lead guitarist, said.
The band rehearses every Sunday, amidst their often-conflicting schedules. Members practice during the week, and rehearsal is used to put all parts together. They say that rehearsal can occasionally be tough when working with four people. On the day of a concert, they will run through their full setlist in the morning in preparation.
“My personal favorite [song to play] right now is ‘Welcome to Paradise’ by Green Day,” said Dahl, who plays bass.
The band plays songs from many different sub-genres of rock and punk, including ‘Black Hole Sun’ by Soundgarden and ‘Dance, Dance’ by Fall Out Boy. According to the band members, fans especially enjoyed their performance of D-7 by Nirvana at their concert last December. All song choices are frequent listens of the members. Dahl says that he gives his input on the songs that he likes, and the rest of the band decides from there. The band believes that the most important part about picking songs for the concert is to consider how fun the songs are for both players and audiences.
“I hope for 30-ish people to come,” Smallwood said. “Being able to play in front of anyone is one of the best feelings a musician can have.”
