On April 13, the Fishers Tigers baseball played the Mount Vernon Marauders at Victory Field, home of the Indianapolis Indians. FHS won 11 to three.
At the end of the first inning, Mount Vernon was leading FHS, two to one. FHS then bounced back, scoring at least one run in every inning and only allowing one other run.
“The guys performed almost flawlessly,” head coach Matthew Cherry said. “They connected on 11 hits, were aggressive at the plate, only struck out twice, attacked fastballs and hit them hard.”
Sophomore Jacob Totman led the Tigers offensively with three hits, two stolen bases, two runs and a run batted in (RBI). Senior pitcher Colin Scher led the Tigers defensively only allowing two runs. Senior Derek Ely and Mike Chakiry both also pitched an inning.
Victory Field is also the host for the annual IHSAA State Championship for baseball in June.
“I absolutely love the experience of playing at Victory Field. It gives these guys a taste of what it would be like to play professionally,” Cherry said. “It gives them a goal, something to set in front of them to work hard to make it to that level.”
