Friday night lights are back. To kick off the season on August 18, the Tigers varsity football team played against the North Central Panthers. It was a battle to the finish with the Panthers winning 19-17 in the last minutes.
Late in the fourth, the Tigers were up, and they carried out a great offensive set of downs to run the clock out. However, getting back on defense, North Central put forth more effort and scored to go up by two points with one minute left.
Senior tight end Bryce Gee scored a touchdown in the third quarter to put the Tigers up, 14-7. According to Gee, this loss will make the team have a better attitude throughout the week at practice while having fun at the same time.
“Our main goal, as seniors, is to lead the team and win games week by week,” Gee said. “We have to stay focused at practice and work on improving each week, but also think about each week’s specific game instead of thinking so far ahead to the state championship.”
Gee and the rest of the team have their chance to demonstrate this new focus when they play an away game against the Pike Red Devils on August 25. Their next home game is against the Hamilton Southeastern Royals on September 8.
