Many different cultures will be on display at the upcoming International Culture Night. May 2’s event will use the Silk Road as its theme. For the students running it, the night will be the culmination of lots of work.

“The Muslim Student Association has been planning an event like this since the beginning of the semester,” junior club member Mustafaa Munir said. “This is a sort of capstone to end the year with other sociocultural groups.”

For Munir and the organizers, there has been a lot of logistics they have had to work out. A lot of the logistical problems have come from it being the first year of the event.

“We were contacting other clubs during a very busy time of the year,” Munir said. “We’ve also contacted the junior highs in order to spread the word outside of the school.”

They hope as many students as possible show up for the night. It is their belief that this event is one that students, specifically students at Fishers, can greatly benefit from.

“Events like this combat ignorance,” Munir said. “Many of us tend to think Fishers is a ‘good place’ compared to other parts of Indiana, but that doesn’t mean all the bad is gone. Ignorance is everywhere, but education can counter it.”
