Farmers Market moves in doors

Nickel Plate amphitheater, the center of the market, is vacant due to bad weather on the final day of the farmers market.

On October 26th, the “summer” farmers market officially closed down its stalls for the last time until May. However, for those who have a fresh food/produce sized hole in their heart, the Fishers Holiday Farmers market opens tomorrow.

“It’s a great opportunity to find unique local products and gifts for friends and families outside to normal holiday shopping outlets for non traditional gifts,” said Jacob Piercy, owner of Grandpa’s Beef Jerky.

Piercy knows first hand how the farmers market can provide opportunities for these unique local products to stand out in the public lexicon. After his grandfather taught him how to make beef jerky, he decided to try his hand at selling the product in 2012.

“The Fishers Farmers Market is the financial foundation for our growth,” Piercy said. “We use profit from the FFM to invest in new farmers markets and digital stores such as Amazon.”

Grandpa’s Beef Jerky isn’t the only success story to come out of the farmers market, though. Mathoo’s Eggrolls, owned by Fishers resident Bea Gustin, was an instant hit in 2011, and since then has consistently drawn lines sometimes a quarter mile long. Both of these vendors, along with items ranging from farm fresh honey to fresh made pies, will all be that the Holiday Market. However, the farmers market doesn’t just provide a healthy environment for its vendors, but the buyers as well.

“The thing I like the most about the farmers market is the environment. The people are so kind and friendly,” HSE sophomore Jack Klein said, who also works at the farmers market.

The Fishers Holiday farmers market begins on November 2nd at 9 and lasts until mid December.
