In a meeting with the HSE school board on Oct. 9, now former principal Jason Urban has officially stepped down from the role to take on the position of assistant superintendent of human resources administration, the role formerly belonging to Brian Murphy.
“In [Urban’s] time and tenure as principal, he has achieved several significant milestones, including National Model School, ‘Best High Schools’ by U.S. News and World Report, Newsweek and the Washington Post,” said Deputy Superintendent Dr. Matt Kegley during the school board meeting. “As a former principal [and] colleague, I have worked very well with Jason.”
Urban stepped to the podium to give a quick word to the board members and the audience about his new position.
“I’m super excited to hit the ground running,” Urban said. “It’s an important time for secondary schools with all the changes that are going on and I hope that I can serve as a valuable resource.”
Dr. Kegley announced that Kyle Goodwin will be promoted to interim principal and Chrissie Sturgill will take over as interim associate principal. Both will officially start their new roles on Oct. 21 after fall break.
In his 15 years with FHS, Goodwin has taught English and business, and most recently served as associate principal this past school year. Similarly, Sturgill has worked in FHS for 21 years with positions in special education and administrative roles as an academic dean and assistant principal. Goodwin and Sturgill also took time to step in front of the board to give their thanks for their new positions.
“[I] really appreciate the opportunity of a lifetime to lead Tiger Nation through its next chapter,” Goodwin said. “Jason Urban is a legendary figure in our community because he’s built something pretty special at Fishers — a school culture and experience like no other.”
