Last Sunday night on Feb. 9, Super Bowl LIX was played at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles took the victory with a final score of 40-22.
This victory marked the end of the Chiefs’ two-year winning streak at prior Super Bowls. If they had won, they would have been the first team to win three Super Bowls in a row.
“I really thought the Chiefs were going to win,” football Coach Curt Funk said. “I thought, with Patrick Mahomes as quarterback and Andy Reed being the coach, they’d get it done.”
Many, like Funk, were disappointed with the Chiefs’ performance in the game, particularly during the first half. The first two quarters saw the Chiefs failing to score a single point, meanwhile the Eagles scored a whopping 24 points.
“The first half, the eagles dominated,” Freshman Braden Murphy said. “I thought the Chiefs were slacking. I’ve seen better from them.”
With how strong the Eagles played in the first half, some found the lack of competition unentertaining.
“The early game was super boring,” Junior Drew Miles said. “The Eagles were completely dominating the Chiefs.”
Seeing as the Eagles won with a lead of 18 points, some felt that the game lacked any real tension or suspense.
“I was hoping for a better game,” Funk said. “The game definitely didn’t live up to the hype. This is probably one of the worse Super Bowls I’ve watched in a long time. It wasn’t very close, and I like to watch a close game.”
