The 2025 season continues to deliver victories for Fishers varsity and first junior varsity (JV1) volleyball teams. Both teams won games against Avon on May 8, setting the scene for what is to come within the near conclusion of their season. This victory compounds on future prospects with varsity now being the 2025 Hoosier Crossroads Conference Champion after their victory.
“We’re just trying to act as a team as much as we can before this Midwest Battle,” senior varsity player Ian Pifer said. “It’s [going to] be a big tournament.”
The tournament is set to occur May 9-10. It fronts a challenge to the newly crowned champion team. Pifer told the Fishers Tiger Times that he has a focus for the future games.
“[I am currently thinking we should] utilize our outsides and take care of business,” Pifer said.
This focus could be important for the future goals of the team, as the Midwest Battle is not seated to be an easy tournament.
“[The] Midwest Battle’s [going to] have the top teams from Indiana and two top teams from Illinois,” Fishers High School head volleyball coach Carlos Capo said. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the high Kentucky teams we normally get. [However], one of the Illinois teams is the second [ranked] team in the nation. The competition’s [going to] be a lot [fiercer] this weekend. I think we’re ready for it, but we have to show up and play our best—compete against the top teams.”

There are many notable aspects of the teams that factor into their upcoming focus and perspectives. Fishers has played a notable schedule this season. On May 3-4, varsity went 4-1 in Chicago. Just this Tuesday, Fishers lost a set at Franklin Central, causing some challenge. These challenges are faced through team dynamics and their impact on gameplay.
“I think we’re very supportive,” sophomore JV1 player Jacob Medalen said. “When somebody gets down, everybody [is] around to help them get back up. It really helps nobody go into a spiral.”
This resolve and support mindset is further extended to the mindset of the team toward what is to come.
“We want a good crowd, our section is the toughest one,” Capo said. “Hopefully the whole crowd will secure us victory Thursday and then [our] two matches Saturday.”
