The school’s founder, Wilhelm von Humboldt, implemented a novel educational model at the university, which emphasized holistic, curiosity-driven learning, rather than exclusively vocational, market-driven learning.

Taking a bite of Devour Indy; Sahm’s Restaurant and Pub

One of the many restaurants involved in Devour Indy on the northside is Sahm’s Restaurant and Pub. Including different types of cuisine, Sahm’s Devour Indy menu has a variety of food and styles of cuisines.

Their Devour Indy deal includes a choice of appetizer, a first course of salad or soup, two entrees and a dessert to share for $40. I started my meal with the Arancini di Riso. These are deep-fried risotto balls with mozzarella cheese in the middle. Served with a sweet and spicy marinara sauce, the risotto balls made for a good start to the meal.

Choices for the next course were  loaded wedge salad, cucumber radish salad or a soup of the day on the menu. I had a garlic butternut squash soup that was sweet and savory. It served as a nice buffer between courses with its small portion.

For the main course, different types of meats are offered including a six ounce steak, braised pork belly and a pan roasted salmon all served with sides. A vegetarian option is offered as well, which is the gnocchi with sage butter. I chose the gnocchi which was savory and fresh with its variation of vegetables and fresh sage on top. The gnocchi was cooked well and the vegetables were steamed with a slight seasoning that added flavor to the dish. The sage butter sauce was not too over powering and paired well with the overall flavors.

The fourth course had two types of desserts: a Tollhouse cookie pie with French vanilla ice cream or a chocolate mousse with fresh strawberries. I had the chocolate mousse which was decadent and rich.

Sahm’s was a filling four course meal for two. For more restaurants and menus, visit devourdowntown.org.
