“Reputation”, released Nov. 10., is Taylor Swift’s sixth album. It features 15 tracks, four of which released as singles prior to the album’s release. The artist has moved away from her old country roots, favoring more of a rap and pop style.
I enjoyed this album because it represents her fresh start. She does not want to be seen as a fragile country girl anymore but rather an empowered woman who does not apologize for who she is.
My favorite song on the album has Swift teaming up with fellow artists Ed Sheeran and Future. It is completely different from any of the other songs she has released before. The modern beat is as catchy as the lyrics: “I want to be your end game./ I want to be your first string./ I want to be your A-Team.” Then she adds the repetition of the line ‘big reputation.’ Ed Sheeran is also one of my favorite artists so having him in this song just makes it that much more entertaining.
Songs like, “Call It What You Want” , “So It Goes…” and “Getaway Car” accentuate how Taylor has matured into a confident woman because of the powerful messages she tries to convey and how far away these songs have moved from the country genre.
This is my favorite album of hers by far. It has a variety of sounds that I believe will appeal to almost everyone. One song could be more pop and mainstream but then the next song could be Swift showing off her newfound rapping skills. This album just differs so much from what other artists are putting out at the moment. I admire Swift’s bravery to take it in a different direction.
“Reputation” is available to purchase on Itunes Music or as a hard copy on Amazon. Swift is currently keeping her album off of streaming services like Spotify.
