Hola, estudiantes! Spanish club is sponsored by Señora Helmcamp and Señora Gutting, and run by a group of student leaders who work together in order to plan out the events they have in store for this year.
Some of these events are Kahoot competitions, games of Lotería (a Mexican game similar to bingo), movie events, a nacho fiesta with plenty of Hispanic dishes, a white elephant gift exchange for Navidad (Christmas) and of course the language club soccer tournament.
Anyone can join Spanish club, regardless of how long they have taken Spanish or how fluent they are.
“We use Spanish and English so the freshmen can participate,” Señora Helmcamp said.
The club also offers a view of Hispanic culture. It helps students practice speaking the language and gives them a chance to learn about the cultural characteristics of Spanish-speaking countries.
All prizes given after competitions are authentic and bought from local Mexican grocery stores. Prizes are things like dulces (candy) and piggy pops.
The call-out meeting will be held after school on Sept, 8 in A102 and a Remind101 will be given then to fill everyone in on meeting times. For further information on when Spanish club meets next, click here
