The basketball court at Carmel High School sits empty prior to an FHS boys’ basketball game against Carmel on April 1, 2019. Carmel won 62-52.

The FHS boys’ basketball team will be looking for a new head coach. Now former head coach Matt Moore is becoming the new boys’ basketball head coach at Warsaw High School. The move was announced on April 18.

Majority of my reason was to move back home and be closer to family.  My wife and I will be welcoming our 5th child here in May,” Moore said.

His brother Scott Moore is the mens’ basketball head coach at Grace College which is located in Winona Lake which is only 2.1 miles away from Warsaw.

“I am excited for a lot of things,” Moore said. “It will be a challenge to again build my expectations and produce a winning culture. It’s a basketball community and there will be a big following and a lot of investment from those who support the program.”

Moore said the thing he will miss the most about FHS is his daily interactions with students and his players as well as his teaching colleagues.

“I have loved the people in my PE department that I was able to work alongside these past three years,” Moore said.

Reflecting on his tenure as FHS boys’ basketball head coach Moore went beyond what happens on the basketball court and all the wins and setting the school wins record this past season.

“We achieved a lot of things on the court but I’m most proud of the culture and expectations we have created off the court,” Moore said. “It’s a proud moment to look back at the lives we’ve impacted through the game.”
