After consistently being at the top in the regular season, but falling short in three straight sectional championships, the Fishers Tigers baseball team is looking to make it past the sectional round for the first time since earning a state-runner up in 2021.
The Tigers are ranked 11 in the Indiana Prep Baseball preseason rankings. They play in the Hooser Crossroads Conference, a conference that has five of its seven teams ranked in the Indiana Prep Baseball’s preseason top 25. Head Coach Matthew Cherry highlights the competitive conference, and how close they have been recently to winning the sectional title.
“We have lost 3 of the last 4 sectional championships,” said Cherry. “So, we are trying to get over that hump. I think all 3 of those teams that made it that far were right there and just did not make it happen. So, [we] just kind of continue to believe in each other and make the plays that need to be made so that we can get to that final out at the sectional championship be victorious.”
Cherry also brought up other goals, emphasizing that success in the program does not just revolve around wins and losses.
“The goal is always just trying to get better every time we are out on the field,” said Cherry. “Trying to be better the next game than we were the previous game. And then a big goal program wide is to build that family atmosphere, that community, that brotherhood, continue to get guys connected and build that camaraderie.”
Junior Carter Davis echoed those same ideas, and how it has been a focus during the offseason and into the season.
“Building a brotherhood and just picking each other up and being a star in whatever role we are put in is something we have gotten better at,” said junior Carter Davis. “Always being energetic and being positive is something we all strive to do.”

The team will feature many new faces. According to Max Preps, only three pitchers on this year’s team threw more than ten varsity innings last year, and only one had more than 25 varsity at bats last season. That means players are going to need to step into new roles, and Cherry highlighted some players he is looking to improve and contribute this season.
“Guys like Sean Frey, Vincent Pecoraro, Collin Bumps, Miles Tebben, and Justin Brown,” said Cherry. “Those guys that are talented enough to play but did not get the chance to [last year] because of our big senior class.”
Senior Miles Tebben reflected on the dynamic of the team, and how that has changed over his time at Fishers.
“Well, my freshman and sophomore year we were blessed to have two really good players in Jack Brown and Gavin Kuzniewski, who carried the torch and then everyone else fit into the lineup around them,” said senior Miles Tebben. “But these last couple years we have had to rely on more group efforts and be willing to work together as a team.”
The Tigers begin their season on March 30 against Homestead at Kokomo Championship Park, ready to begin their hunt for the programs’ second state title.
