The school’s founder, Wilhelm von Humboldt, implemented a novel educational model at the university, which emphasized holistic, curiosity-driven learning, rather than exclusively vocational, market-driven learning.

“I want to do whatever I can to encourage reading. I am there mainly to spark conversation and interject a thought or two to keep the conversation going,” club sponsor and librarian Renee Isom said.

Literary Club, known as Lit Club, is a book club that meets in the library on the second Monday of each month. They gather to talk, connect and share experiences of books that they chose to read for that month.

The books the group reads come from all genres; it is up to the group to pick what they want to read. Once the book is selected, they have about a month to finish it and bring discussion to the group.

Twenty-two are signed up, but there are only six consistent members. Anybody can join the club as long as he/she is respectful of others’ thoughts and opinions and has the desire to expand what he/she read. If interested in joining, the student should go talk to librarian and club sponsor Renee Isom for more specific details.

In order to create a virtual connection between the club, they joined a discussion group on goodreads.com. This allows them to share and connect to people that are not in the school. Students are encouraged to join discussions online as well.
