National Honor Society accepts a wave of new members

The National Honor Society is a school organization that demonstrates the community service hours students put through. Over the first three months of school, students put in over 600 hours of tutoring and community service. A variety of activities they help with stretch from one-on-one or department tutoring to participating in the Hamilton County College Fair.

Students who are interested in joining must be sophomores are juniors who have attended FHS for at least three semesters, have a GPA that is 3.33 or higher, and fill out an application recording previous community service, leadership roles, and extracurricular activities they have taken part in.

The application process takes place in the spring of each year so the next chance for a sophomore to apply will be next year. Students will be notified of their acceptance by the end of April or early May.

“NHS gives students the opportunity to serve the community of FHS as well as the community of Fishers while being leaders,” club sponsor and science teacher Darcy Banitt said.

NHS sponsors two fundraising events per year. Banitt plans on repeating this years events next year: No-Shave November in which they raise money for the Riley Dance Marathon, and Pennies for Patients in which they raise money for the Lymphoma and Leukemia society.
