“I thought for sure we had the game won, and definitely when the ball was tipping around the rim at the end, I thought we won.” Chaudion said.
FHS went back to the court on Saturday, Nov. 30, looking to get their first win of the season as they went up against the sixth ranked Pike Red Devils. The game was a close battle right from the opening tip off.
The lead changed teams many times per quarter. The Tigers lead by two at the end of the first quarter, 19-17. Pike took the lead back by the end of the first half with a 40-36 advantage. The game was tied 57-57 going into the fourth quarter. Pike lead by two in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter, but the Tigers were able to force an overtime period after two clutch free throws by FHS senior Devin Chaudion.
“I thought for sure we had the game won, and definitely when the ball was tipping around the rim at the end, I thought we won.” Chaudion said.
In the overtime period, Pike jumped out in front early and never looked back, as FHS lost their second straight game by a score of 83-76.
“In the huddle (before over time) we were very confident in ourselves that we could come out and beat them, but I think after they stole the game back from us, it took a lot out of us.” Chaudion said.
The Tigers were lead by Chaudion, who scored 30 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Senior Kortland Townsend added on 18 points of his own, and sophomore Cameron Wolter followed up with 15 points.
“The student section makes a huge impact on basketball games because of how close everybody is to the court. The student section definitely gave us a boost.” Chaudion said.
