The school’s founder, Wilhelm von Humboldt, implemented a novel educational model at the university, which emphasized holistic, curiosity-driven learning, rather than exclusively vocational, market-driven learning.

“In CRU we have a band play, we have snacks, play games, hear people’s stories, and have a speaker come and talk,” senior Cru member Cara Newman said.

Their goal is to make a positive impact in the school and strengthening their faith, Cru club meets every Monday night at 7:17. Cru spends a lot of time playing games and spending time with their friends while creating a strong connection with their faith.

“In CRU we have a band play, we have snacks, play games, hear people’s stories, and have a speaker come and talk,” senior Cru member Cara Newman said.

Certain members of the club tell stories of their past and talk about how their faith has helped them through their life so far. The club plays mini-games at the beginning of each meeting to get the many members involved.

Staff members for Campus Crusade for Christ, Dawn and Mark Michal and Deborah Foxworth are the Cru leaders for the school. Science teachers Tammy Snyder and Chris Graybeal are the school sponsors for the club.

“The club has different speakers each week,” Newman said. “Having speakers come in is the biggest part of Cru.”

The speakers differentiate between teachers here at the school, pastors or other church affiliated people, coaches, friends of the leaders, or sometimes even students.  On March 24, girls and boys in the club will be split up for two special surprise speakers.
