The class of 2027 elects 7 freshmen for student government.

Every year when the freshman class comes in there are class officers and a class president elected. They can bring news ideas to the table to build a stronger tiger community.

The 2027 class officers are freshman Maggie Harder, Richard Lancaster, Omar Samara, Kaiser Shockley, Brenna Dayton and Charlotte Lawrence. The class president is freshman Blake Wilson. The candidates all had to make a video submission on canvas for their campaign.

“I think I had a good video for everybody to watch on Canvas,” Wilson said. “I get [to] run under the other class officers and help them along the way. I’ll definitely run again next year.”

Being a class officer or president comes with responsibilities such as student government meetings. There’s many behind the scenes meetings and interactions.

“There’s some meetings [for the officers but only] some are mandatory, I like to attend the ones that aren’t [required], because I like to get as involved with the school as possible,” Samara said. “[There are] Student government meetings, where we just talk about what we want to do with the school in general. There’s [also] principal association committees, where we talk to the principal about what changes we’ve heard and what people want around the school.”

There are also certain backgrounds and qualities that have the potential to make a great class officer candidate.

“I’m smart, but also athletic, so [I know] people from both sides [of my life],” Shockley said.

Creating a video for the campaign is also very important. It can have depth, other students’ opinions and a personal anecdote as to why you’re the right candidate.

“I had a really cool campaign video. I went around the school getting people to say that they would vote for me for class officer,” said Samara. “I’m also a very strong and very capable candidate. I mean, it’s definitely a possibility [of me being reelected].”

Samara thinks that staying involved in the school is a good thing to do when trying to be a good class officer.

With the new 2027 class officers and class president officially elected FHS now has a full student government.
