The roof over Fishers High School is getting a long-awaited upgrade after leaks and age-related issues raised concerns last school year. The Hamilton Southeastern School Board has set aside $1.25 million for roofing work on the north side of the building, according to local Fishers journalist Larry Lannan, who runs the “Larry in Fishers” page.
The district’s 34-page proposal outlines strict requirements for contractors, including experience with at least two projects over $1 million. The work was expected to take between 30 to 90 days.
Leaks became an issue as early as May 2025, particularly in hallway B. The building’s older roofing style caused condensation buildup, making matters worse. At one point, a pipe reportedly burst, and debris from glass pipes in the chemistry lab found its way into the HVAC system. That damage eventually led to the current round of repairs, but even the fix came with its own set of challenges, including a tarp causing a leak.

“A light fixture almost fell on my teacher, Mrs. Clone, so that was really concerning,” senior Audrey Marquez said.
For others, the main issue has been the steady noise from construction. Volume levels and intensity varied from room to room.
“The noise has been a bit distracting but nothing too bad,” senior Mika Dundore said.
English teacher Erin Domokos said the repairs disrupted her classes more significantly.
“It has been really disruptive to learning, and as a teacher you have to really be on your toes when things like that happen,” Domokos said.
To avoid the noise, Domokos temporarily moved her class to the LGI room for two days. She said the change helped her students stay on task despite the disruption.
“It was an adjustment, but we made it work,” Domokos said. “My students were really adaptable.”

Even with the challenges, Domokos believes the district is doing its best.
“I got the impression they didn’t even know how disruptive it would be,” Domokos said. “I think they did the best they could.”
The district hopes the project will prevent future leaks and create a safer, more reliable environment for students and staff in the years to come.
