This year, the Fishers Art Council is hosting their yearly design competition for the Geist Marathon. The winning student will receive a $500 check and will have their artwork printed on the official T-shirts of the event. This opportunity is open to all juniors and seniors attending Fishers High School or Hamilton Southeastern High School.
“Opportunities like the Geist Marathon logo competition provide real-world exposure and valuable practice in presenting, selling their work and collaborating with a client,” AP Art teacher Danielle Goodwin said.
Goodwin has prominently advertised the competition to all her art students, even outside of the advanced AP Drawing and 2-D Design classes.
“Sharing your artwork can be intimidating, but your design might be exactly what someone else is looking for,” Goodwin said.
In past years, the competition has not contained a monetary incentive. Only one student from Fishers submitted a design last year, 2025 graduate Laila Lewis won the competition. Mrs. Goodwin is hopeful of seeing an increase in participation this year.
“The design has to have the Geist bridge, wildlife and water,” AP art student Byxbee Robertson said. “The wildlife couldn’t be geese or ducks.”
Robertson is a senior this year and she is in Goodwin’s AP Art class, in which students must create eight pieces throughout the year that align with a general theme or idea of their choice to show experimentation and revision in their artwork.
“I was looking through the Fishers Art Council and honestly, a lot of it is really cool and they promote a good amount of stuff for young artists to do,” senior Lindsey Antisdel said.
Antisdel is also involved with AP Art. She often works with oil pastels and charcoal.
“Seeing last year’s entry, I feel it’s gonna be more scenery… and so I’m going to incorporate an animal and make it different in that way,” Antisdel said.
The design is limited to a maximum of three colors used. The winner will be contacted on March 2 after finalist selection and public polling of the top three selected.
Because the competition is a paid commission, applicants must submit a W-9 tax form in the event they win for payment and taxing purposes. The winner will be paid $250 when announced as the winner and then receives the remaining portion after design edits are collaborated with the art council. The Fishers Art Council website explains what to submit and how to deliver all items required. Submissions for the logo design are due by 3 p.m. on Feb. 6.
