The school’s founder, Wilhelm von Humboldt, implemented a novel educational model at the university, which emphasized holistic, curiosity-driven learning, rather than exclusively vocational, market-driven learning.

Keith Shelton joins English department staff

Madi Calvert- Every year FHS adds new teachers to its staff, and one of this year’s is English teacher Keith Shelton.

Born and raised in Indianapolis , he has never lived more than two hours from his birthplace. Even when attending college, he was not far from home.

“I went to Wabash College because it had a very good reputation,” Shelton said. “I had a couple of friends who had visited, and though ultimately they didn’t go there, once I hit the campus, I fell in love with it,”

Though he initially knew that he only wanted to coach, which he decided when he entered college, his decision soon changed.

“After my junior year in college, I worked a summer camp, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to teach. That summer camp was sports, but it was also a lot of guidance,” said Shelton.

Outside of teaching his classes, Shelton loves to coach and enjoys spending time with his wife of fifteen years.

Shelton says that the transition to FHS has been as smooth as it could possibly have been, considering he already knew a lot of the expectations and teachers. According to Shelton, he really enjoys this new job.
